After 2 Years of Online Classes, 31% Teachers Still Not Proficient in Digital Teaching: Survey

Despite a two-year learning process for online teaching, over 30.58 percent of teachers are still not very good at digital tools, a recent report from TeamLease EdTech reveals. The report entitled “Digital Transformation of the Teaching Community” reveals that 93.39 percent of teachers can run virtual classrooms, 50.41 percent can perform online assessments and 40.50 percent can use content creation tools; on the other hand, only 31.40 percent can handle an online LMS and 14.88 percent can operate virtual cloud labs.

The report further emphasizes that due to a sudden transition to online teaching, the majority of teachers (close to 79.34 percent) learned by practicing / doing. In addition, teachers equipped and prepared themselves by attending courses from institutions (35.54 percent), from friends / colleagues / family (25.62 percent) and by attending self-sponsored courses (19.01 percent).

The report also delves into teachers’ perceptions of the future of digital intervention in education. Interestingly, 90.08 percent of teachers anticipate the use of the technical and pedagogical skills they have acquired over the past two years. In fact, 66.94 percent of them felt that these new skills had opened up better career opportunities for them.

According to the survey results, teachers have expressed their interest in continuing to use digital tools in the future for virtual classrooms (74.38 percent), online tasks (61.98 percent), pre-recording of content (50.41 percent) and online tests (39.67). percent). In addition, 26.45 percent of teachers also want to use virtual cloud labs.

Loss of interest Key challenge

The report also delves into the challenges of the digital learning space. 75.04 percent of the educators feel that the students tend to lose interest during online lessons and 44.63 percent of the teachers feel that both students and teachers are still uncomfortable with digital integration.

From an infrastructural perspective, 65.29 percent of the teachers consider that internet connection is a challenge and 50.41 percent of them feel that there is a lack of dedicated laptops / smartphones with the students.
