Actress Stephanie Beatriz (av Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame) has joined the cast for the upcoming live-action series adaptation of the video game series Twisted Metal. The actor will play opposite Avengersstar Anthony Mackie in the action comedy series.
Based on the classic PlayStation game series, Twisted Metal is said to be a high-octane action comedy about an outsider named John Doe (Mackie) who offers a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he will meet wild marauders who drive destruction vehicles and other dangers on the open road, including a crazy clown who drives an overly familiar ice cream truck.
The series has an original draft written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Beatriz will play a character named Quiet, a car thief who relies solely on his instincts. Driven by a need to find her place in this chaotic world, her vision of revenge is clouded, leading her to form an unlikely and antagonistic connection with John Doe.
Michael Jonathan Smith will write, run and produce the series with Reese, Wernick, Will Arnett and Marc Forman for Electric Avenue, Jason Spire for Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato for Artists First, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions and Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios. Kitao Sakurai will direct several episodes and act as executive producer.
Twisted Metal produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television. The series is expected to be released in 2023.
