Chaitra Navratri 2022: Indian Railways to Serve Special Vrat Thali From Today; Here’s How You Can Order

CHAITRA NAVRATRI 2022: On the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Navratri, which started today, April 2, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced a special Navratri menu in the trains. Indian Railways will start offering the Navratri menu starting Saturday, April 2nd. The menu has been determined with the fasting ritual in mind and the type of food that is usually consumed during this time.

During the Chaitra Navratri, devotees fast for nine days seeking blessings from the goddess Durga. According to traditions, people usually eat foods like kuttu ki puri, singhare ke pakode, sabudana khichdi and sabudana vada among others.

IRCTC offers the new menu at a starting price of 99 Rs.

Passengers will be offered entrees made with sendha namak instead of the usual table salt. In addition, the objects are completely free of onions and garlic.


The starter menu consists of aloo chaap and sabudana tikki.

Main course

The main course includes paneer makhmali and sabudana khichdi, kofta curry, paneer makhmali and arbi masala.


In addition to this, IRCTC has also taken care of the desserts where sitaphal kheer is offered.

The move will probably facilitate travel during the fasting period as passengers will now be able to get their Navratri meal on the train itself. Passengers can use IRCTC’s e-catering service and book their special Navratri thali on tickets from 28 March. You can also book your Navratri thali on the telephone number 1323.

Chaitra Navratri started today, April 2 this year and will run until April 11. It starts with Maa Shailpuri puja on the first day and culminates with Navratri Parana. The festival is of great importance in Hinduism as it celebrates the victory of good over evil. It is believed that the goddess Durga appeared on Chaitra Navratri’s day and created the universe at the request of Lord Brahma.
