Game of Thrones Spin-Off House of the Dragon Release Date Revealed

House of the Dragon premieres in less than five months. With a teaser poster featuring a dragon egg – along with new looks on most of the lead roles – HBO has announced that the first Game of Thrones spin-off will arrive on Sunday, August 21 on HBO and HBO Max where it’s available. Assuming the HBO deal with Disney-owned Star India is still in place then, you can expect House of the Dragon to be released on Monday, August 22 at Disney + Hotstar in India. As with all HBO shows, the Game of Thrones spin-off will be released weekly. With a first season of 10 episodes, House of the Dragon should run until Sunday 23 October / Monday 24 October.

Interestingly, this Game of Thrones prequel spin-off places less than two weeks before another big-budget epic fantasy prequel spin-off. I’m talking about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of the Power – which will begin its first season in eight episodes on Friday, September 2 on Amazon Prime Video – a series that practically exists due to the huge craze surrounding Game of Thrones. This means that the audience throughout September and several weeks in October will be offered a new The Lord of the Rings episode every Friday and a new House of the Dragon episode every Sunday / Monday.

In addition to the House of the Dragons release date, HBO has unveiled nine new images from the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off, with Paddy Considine as Seven Kingdoms ‘fifth ruler King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith as heir Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’ Arcy as Viserys firstborn Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Lady Alicent Hightower who is part of the king’s inner circle, Rhys Ifans as Alicent’s father and the king’s hand Ser Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as the famous sailor Lord Corly’s “Sea Snake” Velaryon, Eve Best as Corlys wife Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Milly Alcock and Emily Carey as young Rhaenyra and Alicent, Fabien Frankel as skilled swordsman Ser Criston Cole, and Sonoya Mizuno as dancer and Daemon’s most trusted ally Mysaria.

House of the Dragon begins August 21 on HBO and HBO Max and August 22 on Disney + Hotstar. All eight Game of Thrones seasons are currently available on Disney + Hotstar.
