Goa witnessing sharp rise in demand for hotels, resorts: Report

NEW DELHI: With schools on summer vacation, Indians are starting to travel and look for hotels and resorts, demand which, according to at least one company, has increased by a whopping 83% in India. Goa is at the forefront of this demand boom, according to Internet technology company Just Dial’s Consumer Insights report.

Data suggest that demand for resorts in tier-I cities increased by 37% in a row, and that for hotels 21% and guest houses 40% in April, Just Dial said, referring to search data on its website.

The maximum demand in cities in level I was for places that saw an increase of 52% in searches compared to the holiday period that ended in 2021, that for guest houses increased by 87% and was stable for hotels.

The company said that its research method was based on search data received by its platform. The total traffic on its platform in Quarterly Unique Visitors during the March quarter in FY22 amounted to 144.8 million users, it added.

Prasun Kumar, marketing manager for the company, said: “There is a significant increase in demand for resorts, hotels and guest houses on the platform. This bodes well for the tourism industry which has experienced the impact of covid over the past two years. As more tourists leave out on a much-needed summer break, we are delighted to have enriched the platform with a wide range of hotels and resorts that would offer tourists a wide range of their needs for a holiday. “

Among tier-I cities, Mumbai topped the demand for hotels, resorts and guest houses. Most of the demand in the financial capital was for resorts as India’s financial capital contributed 56% of the demand generated from Tier I cities followed by Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Mumbai also saw maximum searches for seaside resorts and water parks.

In addition to Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai saw high demand for hotels and Delhi and Kolkata for guest houses. Search for five star hotels in Delhi was slightly ahead of Mumbai while Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad were the top three cities where serviced apartments were in high demand.

It added that the country’s tier II cities also saw a significant increase in demand for resorts and guest houses while demand for hotels remained stable. The search for resorts increased by 119% and for guest houses by 105%.

Among Level II cities, Goa, India’s favorite holiday destination, saw maximum demand for hotels, up 118% in April, followed by Coimbatore, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Lucknow. Search for five-star hotels remained high in Goa, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.

Nagpur topped the demand for resorts among Level II cities followed by Vadodara, Mangalore, a popular coastal town, and Indore. Goa also saw a 76% increase in demand for resorts making it a sought after destination even during the summer. Tirupati saw maximum demand for guest houses among Level II cities. The Temple City contributed almost 23% of the searches generated from the Level II cities and increased demand by 150% month by month in April. Surat, Rajkot, Patna and Lucknow were the top five Level II cities that saw maximum demand for guest houses.
