On Saturday, Tripura’s Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb resigned as governor SN Arya a year before the Northeastern state heads of state for the by-elections. Deb made the announcement after meeting the governor of Raj Bhavan in Agartala.
“The party is above all. I am a loyal worker for BJP. I hope I have done justice to the responsibility that was given to me – whether it was the BJP’s State President or Tripura’s Prime Minister. I have worked for the overall development of Tripura and to ensure peace for the people of the state, “Biplab Deb told reporters.
“The 2023 election is approaching and the party wants a responsible organizer to take care of the issues here. A government can only be formed if the organization is strong, “he added.
Deb’s resign comes two days after he met with EU Interior Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda in New Delhi.
While the BJP was preparing for a legislative party meeting to elect a new prime minister, the opposition parties went to social media to allege “BJP misrule” in the state.
The first party to react to the departure was Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, which has set its sights on Tripura as part of its mission to expand its footprint beyond West Bengal.
“Goodbye and good relief to CM who let down thousands of people in #Tripura! Enough damage done. So much so that even the top executives at
@ BJP4India are tired of his INCOMPETENCE, “tweeted TMC.

TMC’s election campaign in the state is now likely to focus on the fact that the first BJP chief minister in Tripura will not complete the entire five-year term.
TMC leader Sushmita Dev, who is likely to play a significant role in the party’s Tripura campaign, said that “kicking CM” will not help the BJP retain power in the state.
They saw four years of betrayal. Kicking CM will not save them from an imminent defeat. https://t.co/pwjUWMFHUE

The CPI (M) leader, Md Salim, also fired on BJP over Deb’s resignation. “The party that can not keep its CM for a period … see how they govern India.”
