How Xiaomi, Nothing, Oppo And Zomato Pulled April Fools’ Pranks

Xiaomi, Nothing and Oppo have all made an April Fool’s joke on the extra enthusiastic tech fans who forgot to check the calendar. All these companies have teased the launch of a new product, but the whole marketing game was part of a developed plan. None of Carl Pei teased the launch of “Another (1)” smartphone, while Xiaomi was expected to launch its Mi Pad in India. Oppo was also expected to launch something special but it was released in the form of ‘Oppo Gotcha’.

Xiaomi on April 2022: Earlier this week, Xiaomi began promoting the arrival of a new “tab” in the country. Many fans speculated about the launch of the Xiaomi Pad which is still available in selected global markets and not in India. It turns out that the company was just joking with us with the launch of “Confiboost” mint tablets that are guaranteed to be “child-friendly” and “ultra-portable”. The company is obviously not in the mood to introduce its long-awaited tablet yet.

Nothing on April Fools 2022: Former OnePlus CEO Carl Pei’s Nothing also marketed the launch of a new smartphone after introducing its first Nothing (1) Phone last month. The company teased the arrival of “another” smartphone, but no details were shared. More than a joke, Nothing seized the opportunity and dug for OEMs to have produced boring, “original” smartphones with “edge-to-edge monotony”. The company aimed at the solid box design with several cameras on the back. The company’s first Nothing (1) phone is said to freshen up the smartphone’s look and feel, similar to its Ear (1) TWS earbuds.

Oppo on April 2022: Oppo, just like Xiaomi, went one step further and created a dedicated site to pull this joke. Called “Oppo Gotcha”, the device is essentially a toy with some “latest” technology. In his post on social media, Oppo said: “The wait is over. Say hello to #OPPOGotcha. Do not be fooled by its small size. Incredible potential awaits”.

Zomato also does a little prank on selected customers. As discovered by Gizbot’s Rohit Arora, Zomato shares a message with customers saying, “I just placed an order with you on Zomato. You can track order status here.” But the link has the text “You have become a prankster”. Fools day or not, readers are advised not to click on suspicious links for online safety.
