What is car insurance?
Car insurance is a term you may have heard used to describe compulsory insurance. Basically, it’s a contract between the driver and the insurer. Before we go any further, let’s clarify what we mean by the term. Car insurance is compulsory insurance. That means it’s mandatory for all drivers to have it.
The law in some countries makes drivers pay for car insurance after they’ve purchased a vehicle. This happens when the driver obtains a driver’s license. By that time, the driver has already paid for the vehicle. For example, if a person pays $2,000 for a car, he is forced to buy insurance to drive it.
So, can you get car insurance with a permit?
The short answer is yes. However, if you’re driving alone, you don’t need to purchase car insurance.
Can you get car insurance with a permit?
You need a valid driver’s license in order to drive. However, if you’re a minor, or if you’re under 18 years old, you can drive a car without a license. You just won’t be allowed to take passengers in the car. You also won’t be allowed to drive over the speed limit, and you won’t be allowed to drive a car with passengers. However, you can get an idea of how to get car insurance with a permit in the first place by watching the video below:
If you’ve completed your learner’s permit, your driver’s license is in order, and you’ve passed the written test, it might be time to think about insurance for a car. If you need to get a car, and you have a valid driver’s license, you can get car insurance.
Do you need a license to purchase a car?
What you need to understand is whether you need a license to buy a car. If you don’t, that is fine. If you do, then you do need to get a driver’s license and get a license to purchase a car. There’s no getting around the necessity of getting a license and a driver’s license to buy a car.
If you don’t have a driver’s license and a license to buy a car, then you might want to consider getting a driving test. While it is technically possible to get a permit to buy a car, you’d still have to get a driver’s license first. Some states might not allow you to get a license without a license to buy a car. You could also get a partial license which would allow you to drive on public roads without a permit to buy a car.
The answer is “yes.” You can legally purchase a car, take your learner’s permit, and be legally able to drive to your job, appointments, and everyday driving needs.
Closed course driving with a permit is entirely legal, and the cost of your insurance will be the same as if you had your license.
If you live with a parent, be sure to check with them to see if they have insurance.
Barrier to Entry
If you live alone, and you have never bought your own car, and you’re not the type of person who keeps their car for a few years, this could be a barrier to entry.
You’ll have to buy your car, and insure it, before you can drive. With age, you’re liable for less and less, so getting insurance is a good investment in insurance protection and ownership of your car.
