IPL 2022: CSK’s Ambati Rayudu takes U-turn, deletes retirement Tweet

Chennai Super Kings batsman Ambati Rayudu, who announced that IPL 2022 will be his last season, has deleted the tweet hours after the post. The 36-year-old posted the tweet around 12 in the afternoon on Saturday and deleted the post an hour and a half after posting it. This leaves fans with the question mark whether Rayudu is retiring or not

Rayudu thanked his former team Mumbai Indians and current team CSK for the support. Rayudu made his IPL debut back in 2010 for the Mumbai Indians, he was bought by MS Dhoni’s side in 2018.

“I’m happy to announce that this will be my last IPL. I’ve had a wonderful time playing it and been part of two fantastic teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank the Mumbai Indians and CSK for the wonderful trip , “Ambati Rayudu has written.

In response to his tweet, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan had tweeted: “Have been playing cricket with you since our U-19 days. Always admire your stroke and energy you give on the pitch. Wish you luck with your journey ahead brother. You has done very well and should be proud of your achievement @RayuduAmbati. “

But after Rayudu deleted the tweet, fans were questioned as to why he withdrew from his original announcement of retirement. After being brought back by Chennai in the IPL Mega Auction for INR 6.2 crores, Rayudu has made 271 runs in 12 matches with an average of 27.10 and the strike rate of 124.31, and has become the third highest rungette for the team in IPL 2022.

Chennai CEO Kasi Viswanathan told NDTV that Rayudu is not retiring from the IPL. “He was a little disappointed that he was not feeling well. So he accidentally posted that tweet. I have explained things to him. He is not retiring. He will be with us.”

Earlier, Rayudu, a five-time IPL winner, had announced his departure from all play formats in 2019 after being overlooked for India’s 15 member team in the Men’s Cricket World Cup. But he soon made a U-turn and returned to playing cricket at the domestic arena as well as the IPL.
