IPL 2022: Umesh Yadav Picks Up 4 Wickets as KKR Bowl Out Punjab Kings for 137

Umesh Yadav took his first four-fer for the IPL season to help the Kolkata Knight Riders ball the Punjab Kings for 137 runs in their IPL 2022 match at Wankhede Stadium this Friday.

Umesh Yadav, who last played a T20I match for India in February 2019, noted his abilities ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year by claiming 4/23 to rattle the Punjab Kings.

After taking a wicket in his first over in the matches against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Yadav continued his success by sending back Punjab skipper Mayank Agarwal on the last ball in his first over. This was his 50th wicket in the powerplay in the IPL.

IPL 2022: KKR vs PBKS – LIVE

Punjab never recovered from the early blow and although Bhanuka Rajapaksa blew a 9-ball 31 and Kagiso Rabada made a late charge with a 16-ball 25, they could only handle 137 which did not give their bowlers much to ball on.

Asked to hit first, PBKS got off to a bad start and lost skipper Mayank Agarwal on the last ball in the first over. Umesh Yadav took a pacifier back after throwing on the stump and Agarwal was caught in front, giving KKR his first wicket with just two runs on the board.

Shikhar Dhawan played Tim Southee’s first over carefully, but Bhanuka Rajapaksa went on the run, beating Southee for a four from the last ball of his first over and giving the same treatment to Umesh Yadav in the next over. The Sri Lankan batter threw himself into Shivam Mavi, who was taken in place of Sheldon Jackson, beat him for a four and followed by three sixes of consecutive balls – the first over the middle, the next over long-on and the third one hit . -swipe over square leg boundary.

But Mavi got the last laugh when he forced Rajapaksa to spoon with a simple catch with a delivery on the back of the length that pushed the batter for space. Southee ended a simple clash in the middle to send the batter back – Rajpaksa’s entertaining innings lasted only 9 balls but fetched PBKS 31 runs. Mavi’s first over cost him 22 runs for the Rajapaksa wicket.

Shikhar Dhawan did not last long and was the next PBKS batter to get out of, offering a thick edge to goalkeeper Sam Billings outside Tim Southee.

Punjab King’s middle order collapsed when the likes of Liam Livingstone, Raj Bawa and Shah Rukh Khan left without contributing much to the score and 92/6 in the 13th round.

Umesh Yadav increased their misery with a double in the 15th over – sent back Harpreet Brar (14) and Rahul Chahar (0) from the first and fourth ball in unison.

South African pacemaker Kagiso Rabada, who made his debut, received some hilarious blows when he made 25 of 16 deliveries, but once his charming life ended when Southee brilliantly captured an accomplished skier.

PBKS thus ended their innings with Arshdeep Singh driving out in the 19th over when they were thrown out for 137.

Short points:

Punjab Kings 137 all out on 18.2 overs (Bhanuka Rajapaksa 31, Kagiso Rabada 25; Umesh Yadav 4/23, Tim Southee 2/26) against Kolkata Knight Riders.
