Tsitsipas, who will move up to fourth place in the new ATP rankings next week, will need to beat either top-ranked Novak Djokovic or Norwegian fifth-seeded Casper Ruud to take his third Masters 1000 title.

In the third semi-final of the Masters 1000 between the pair this season, Tsitsipas defeated Zverev because he stayed consistent from the baseline and strong on the serve all the time.

Zverev was clinical in the opening set with his first serve serving as a clock, but the German lost a set for the first time in this year’s tournament when Tsitsipas raised his own level in the second set.

Tsitsipas struck first in the decision and earned a break to lead 3-2 when Zverev sent a forehand into the net.

Tsitsipas broke the Zverev serve again to eventually take a comfortable victory when the German game went off the rails. He now has a Tour-leading 31 game wins this year and leads his head-to-head against Zverev 8-4.

The loss meant that Zverev has not yet won a title this season.
