Karan Johar Calls the Kashmir Files A ‘Movement’, Says ‘You Have to Watch It to Absorb’

Filmmaker Karan Johar opened in a recent interview about the success of Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files and called the film a “movement”.

Vivek Agnihotris The Kashmir Files has become one of the most successful films, not only after the pandemic but through all time. Made on a humble budget, it has been running successfully for over three weeks now and has already earned over Rs. 225 crores in India alone. The film has been loved by the audience and people from the industry have also talked a lot about it. Filmmaker Karan Johar’s name can now be added to the list of people who have loved the film. In fact, he even called it a “movement” in a recent interview.

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Karan Johar said: “The Kashmir films are not made on a budget like many other films. But it will probably be the biggest hit in Indian film. You have to admit that there is something that connects to this nation and academically. “You have to see it. You have to look at it to absorb, to learn from that look, it’s this movement that has happened. It’s not a movie anymore, it’s a movement.”

Before Karan Johar, several celebrities talked about how much they loved The Kashmir Files. Yami Gautam and Aditya Dhar had been some of the first to invite others to see the film. Stars such as Akshay Kumar and Kangana Ranaut also sang hymns. The Kashmir Files have broken several records and managed to overshadow a big budget film like Akshay Kumar’s Bachchhan Paandey.

The film will be released on March 11 and is about the emigration of The Kashmiri Pandits. The film starred Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar and Mithun Chakraborty. One week after its release, it was also dubbed Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The film’s collections have passed Rs. 300 crores worldwide, and the ban on it has been lifted in the United Arab Emirates. The Kashmir files will be released in the United Arab Emirates from April 7.
