Man murdered with knife to the heart after car park argument

By chance, a car with Smart’s girlfriend drove into the parking lot shortly after, so he jumped into the back seat and the car sped off in the same direction as Bell’s out.

About a mile up the road, vehicles stopped at a red light at the intersection of Bruce Highway and Monkland Street.

Bells and Smart shouted at each other from their cars at the red light, before Smart went out.

Smart approached the driver’s door and stabbed Tylor Bell twice with a knife as he sat in the driver’s seat of the car – once on the left side of his chest so deep that the blade penetrated his heart.

The stab wound in Tylor Bell’s chest was at least seven centimeters deep and caused a two centimeter long wound in the heart.

There was no time to change seats, so Tylor Bell drove himself to a nearby Gympie Hospital. He suffered a heart attack at Gympie and was flown to Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital, where he died seven days later.

The court heard Smart’s explanation after the stabbing was that he thought Bell’s “will hit” him and that he “did not plan any of this s —“.

Smart’s legal team claimed he acted in self-defense at the intersection, after Tylor Bell “grabbed a metal bar from [ute]During the first confrontation near the mall.

Smart claimed that he feared that Tylor Bell “would do the same thing at the intersection”.

On Thursday, Smart sentenced to life behind bars, Judge Peter Applegarth described the perpetrator’s actions as “completely unfair” of all the threats Tylor Bell may have posed.

“Tylor Bell may have grabbed a metal torch or bar from the car at some point … but that was no excuse for your deadly actions. You did not have to approach the car at all. Even if Tylor Bell verbally abused you, you did not have to run on him and stab him through an open window, he said.

“Knife violence can be less frightening than the gun violence we see in the United States, but knife violence is still frightening … aggression and knives do not solve problems, they are the problems.”
