“Red-Ball Cricket Is A Completely Different…”: Dinesh Karthik On Brendon McCullum Becoming England Test Coach | Cricket News

Brendon McCullum’s new challenge as the English cricket team’s test coach will be a tough one. The approach is completely new because the Ben Stokes-led team aims to recover from their latest bad form in test cricket. They fought 4-0 in the latest Ashes Test series and this has led to extensive changes in the English cricket format. Stokes’ appointment as new Test captain and McCullums as coach are part of these changes. However, McCullum has no previous experience of coaching an international side, or in fact, in the longer format – whether it is tests or first class.

He has only guided Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Indian cricket team player Dinesh Karthik, who is in great shape for KKR in IPL 2022 under coach McCullum, says that not coaching an international team earlier will increase the challenge for the big New Zealand.

“I think there will be some things that will definitely be new to Brendon McCullum,” he told the ICC Review. “There is no doubt about that. Although he has done his coaching for Kolkata Knight Riders and for Trinbago Knight Riders, I think the red ball cricket is a completely different kettle.”

Karthik added that it will be an interesting time for England’s Test cricket team, which after a loss in the ashes also lost a series in the Caribbean.

“So it will be very interesting when Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum meet and find out what is the positive way for England’s cricket to do things. Because there will be times when they are obviously faced with tough wickets and the punches will sometimes “I think it will be a very interesting battle for them,” said Karthik.

He also gave low information about how the atmosphere can be in the locker room after working with McCullum in the KKR setup.

“It will be a very relaxed locker room. I have seen that he is someone who focuses a lot on playing many sports off the field and having a lot of fun too,” said Karthik.

“He emphasizes it a lot as a young kid who likes to play all sorts of sports and gets very physical as well. He is a very strong man, there is no doubt about that. Sometimes even too strong for the current cricketers today. It will be a very relaxed dressing room, a very cool dressing room.

“It will be very interesting how the young people can draw energy from it and make sure they do everything right to take English cricket forward.”
