Sunrisers Hyderabad looks set to get their campaign back on track when they face an inconsistent Kolkata Knight Riders camp at MCA Stadium, Pune on Saturday. Hyderabad recorded a winning streak of five games before four straight losses tracked out their impressive run. The 2016 IPL winner must win all three of his remaining matches to have hope of reaching the playoffs. Follow IPL 2022 coverage
Hyderabad’s dubious incantation during the last four matches is mainly due to injuries to important bowlers and Umran Malik who blows hot and cold. The absence of Washington Sundar and T Natarajan revealed the team’s bowling fragility in the previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Speed trader Umran went wicketless while Fazalhaq Farooqi and Kartik Tyagi leaked 47 and 42 runs respectively.
Natarajan was very lacking in tempo and he could replace either Farooqi or Kartik in the eleven. Head coach Tom Moody confirmed that Natarajan and Washington will be available for selection against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The fact that Umran has gone wicketless in the last three matches can damage Sunriser’s bowling pitches. Although his form is still a major concern for the team, skipper Kane Williamson must also step up with the arrow. Williamson has struggled for runs this season to collect just 199 runs from 11 games. He will try to take hold of the broken run and make a more decisive contribution.
His partner Abhishek Sharma has given Sunriser a solid start, but the youngster has not been able to take the inning deep. Rahul Tripathi, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram must also shoulder a little more responsibility when the tournament enters its business end.
