Tim Paine Misses Out As Tasmania Announce Contract List For Upcoming Season | Cricket News

Former Australian captain Tim Paine has been left out of Tasmania’s list of contracted players, leaving dark clouds over his playing career. Paine, who had stepped down as Australia’s Test captain following a “sexting” scandal, had taken an indefinite “break in mental health” from the game. After taking a break from cricket, Paine had returned to the Tasmanian cricket fold with an unofficial coaching role late last season. The Tasmanian Tigers have selected a predominantly unchanged squad from last season, which meant that they barely missed the finals in both Sheffield Shield and the Marsh One-Day Cup, and finished third in both competitions.

With Paine removed from the squad, the Tigers have increased their bowling attack and handed over the contract to Australian pacer Billy Stanlake, who decided to change his loyalty from Queensland to Tasmania.

Veteran Peter Siddle, who currently plays for Somerset in the County Championship, has also signed a one-year contract extension.

While Tasmania had missed two finals last season, head coach Jeff Vaughan is convinced there is not much need for change.

“There’s a good mix of seniors and new players on the list, and on the back of a promising 2021-22 season, we’m excited about what to expect.” he was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.

“With hopefully a full match for both red and white ball cricket this year, I’m really excited and confident about what this team can produce,” he added.
