According to Diabetes UK, some breakfast options may contain hidden risks for people with type 2 diabetes.
Cereals such as granola may seem useful on the surface, but they often have a high sugar and fat content.
The charity advised to play it safe with oatmeal or equivalent, “just avoid those with added sugar, honey, golden syrup or cocoa powder”.
The health authority added: “Wheat biscuits, shredded wheat or muesli (without added sugar) are also good alternatives. For sweetness, add chopped fruit.”
